Conwy: Outdoor Learning

Over the past week, the children have been enthusiastically exploring the school grounds to look for signs of Spring. During Outdoor Learning we observed many daffodils beginning to grow and very excited to discover frogspawn with Miss Callaghan. This sparked great curiosity, and we will be following the life cycle within Continuous Provision, as the children have lots of questions. The children enjoyed creating wind catchers to build fine motor skills, using colours of the Welsh flag.

In addition, we spent time collecting sticks for another activity and created tally’s to develop our maths skills. The children also experimented with planks, independently building bridges in different positions, testing how this affected the speed of a toy car. Lots of fun. This hands-on exploration encouraged problem solving , teamwork and scientific thinking.

Conwy: Maths Arrays

This week we have been looking at making arrays to answer addition questions that have an answer more than 10.

Today we set our own maths questions using 9 sided dice and answered addition questions bridging 10! The children used coloured spots to create their arrays.

Earlier in the week we did this practically, yesterday we applied our knowledge to questions set by Miss Postle and for day we set our own challenge of questions!

Great to see so much independence going on in class!

Conwy: Children in Need

Conwy: Houses Of Parliament Expressive Arts

As we begin to finish looking at how and why we celebrate Bonfire Night, the children have been creating firework paintings over the Houses of Parliament!

The children created their own silhouettes using their own knowledge of the Gunpowder Plot and after building the Houses of Parliament in our construction area. They then used forks to spread the paint above the silhouettes to create colourful fireworks!

It’s been wonderful to watch the children explore so many different times of materials and media when looking at Bonfire Night & The Gunpowder Plot!

Conwy: Bonfire Night Expressive Arts

Firework Craft

This half term, the children are looking at developing their expressive art skills. They will be learning skills across the curriculum linking to our new topic of celebrations.

Earlier this week we created rocket fireworks after learning all about Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot to understand why we celebrate bonfire night with fireworks and bonfires.

Out in the forest school this morning we foraged for natural resources. We then used what we had found to create bonfire artwork. We discussed the colours of the leaves and how we would select the materials we would need to create bonfires.

Room on the broom frog paper plate craft! The children designed their own frogs all with different expressions, focusing on our frog character from our class story.

We’ve investigated how the parts make a total that we call one whole. We have began to discuss how we can write number sentences to give totals before we move on to addition later this term.

Conwy: Room On The Broom Maths

This week we have been looking at how parts make a whole and that when we add our parts together we can make a total.

We used or characters from Room On The Broom to make parts and wholes which we will continue to extend this week into writing number sentences using part whole models.
