Dosbarth Criccieth: National Numeracy Day

Today is National Numeracy Day. To celebrate, children in Dosbarth Criccieth took part in an Escape Room. They worked in teams to see if they could solve the missions, which gave them a code. This code could then open a padlock that was holding the numeracy trophy! they had 45 minutes to try and complete the challenge, one team worked so well, they completed it with 16 minutes to spare! All children completed the challenges with 2 groups opening the padlock just after the set time.

They worked so well and loved the excitement! Well done to all the children!

Dosbarth Caerdydd: Board Game Bosses

The Year 5 and 6 pupils in Dosbarth Caerdydd have been working extremely hard over the last few weeks to research, design, create, test, edit and finalise their very own board games to support younger pupils in the school with their maths skills! And today they were very excited to share their games with pupils across the school.

The younger pupils were very impressed with the games and are delighted to be able to keep them in their classes to play with over the next few weeks.

Dosbarth Criccieth: Water Butts

This week in our outdoor learning, we have made water butts from old plastic bottles. We have been looking at how we can make better choices, reducing our use of items, reusing things in a different way or recycling. We will take them home once they are complete and collect rain water to use for watering plants at home.

Event: Family Support Sessions

Ysgol Maes y Llan is pleased to offer Family Support Sessions in partnership with Noddfa. These supportive sessions provide families with practical advice, emotional support, and guidance on parenting, routines, and accessing community services. If you would like a friendly, confidential space to talk and receive support, sessions are available on 19th May and 23rd June between 1:00pm and 3:00pm.

Conwy: Creating their own role play Garden Centre

The children of Dosbarth Conwy have been creating their own Garden centre. As a class they decided on the name ‘Blossoms Garden Centre’. They have created their own signs and labels to display. They designed and made seed packets ensuring the pack contains all the useful information such as name of seeds, when to plant, how to care for and of course a picture of what the seed will grow into. We have written instructions on planting seeds and used these to plant our own carrots and beans, that we are presently caring for.

Dosbarth Criccieth: making equal and unequal parts

Today we have been using counters and teddies to start looking at fractions. We have been splitting them up into equal and unequal parts. We worked with partners to find as many ways as we could.

Castell Conwy

In Maths we have been learning about odds and evens. The children have created an odd and even town using numicon, as well as sorting the numicon. Some children have grouped objects and worked out if the total is odd or even.
