Eco Council 2021-2022
July 2022
Green Flag Award
Our school successfully achieved the first Keep Wales Tidy Eco-Schools Green Flag award after our Eco Councillors enjoyed showing Tim Wort (Keep Wales Tidy, Education Manager) all the children’s environmental work that has taken place in school, on the school grounds and in the local community.

RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch 2022
Our Eco Councilors enjoyed taking part in the RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch survey on 24th January 2022.
They then compared their results with the survey completed in 2021. The children were pleased to find we had more blackbirds, pied wagtails, carrion crows, jackdaws and robins than last year. They thought this was because we had been filling up the bird feeders in the Forest School area more often, which encouraged the birds to visit.
Were you able to take part in the RSPB Big Birdwatch this year? If so we would love to hear what type of birds visited your garden. Please feel free to Dojo your teacher or Mrs Buxton with your results.

Our School Grounds Bird Watch Results
During January 2021 lockdown, our Key Workers children enjoyed taking part in the RSPB Big School Birdwatch survey in our school grounds. Here are the results of the bird species visiting our school over a one hour period.
Earth Hour 2021
Our Eco Councillors invite you to take part in this years’ WWF Earth Hour event on Saturday 27th March at 8:30pm. For one hour, over hundreds of millions of people across the world will switch off their non-essential lights to show they care about the future of our planet – our shared home.
This years’ focus is on taking part at home or online. On the week leading up to the event why not watch the Earth Hour 2021 Official video on Youtube. You can also find fun tips at wwf.org.uk/earthhour on how to spend your hour with your family or how to join one of the many online events.
Eco Council Elections.
Thursday 11th October was our Eco Schools voting day, with certificates being presented in the celebration assembly that afternoon.
Our eco-conscious students had worked hard preparing their manifestos and campaigning for votes.
They are looking forward to their first meeting and creating environmental action plans to help Ysgol Maes-Y-Llan to become even more eco-friendly.
