September 2020/21 (1)

As many of you will be aware, we were awaiting guidance from the WAG as to how to best reopen schools safely to all pupils in September. The guidance was published Monday evening and we are now in a position to share our initial plans with you. As plans are finalised, or guidance updated by WAG, we will keep you updated.

The first day of school for most pupils will be Thursday 3rd of September.

  • Reception pupils will start from Tuesday 8th September
    • As well as Mrs Jackson, Mrs Williams and Mrs Callaghan, the familiar faces of last year’s staff, Miss Thomas and Mrs Edwards, will be supporting the new Reception pupils from Tuesday 8th until Friday 11th. These children have only had half of their Nursery year, and we want to make their reintroduction back in to school as smooth as possible.
      • Reception children will be split into 3 groups for this week and each will have a full day of attending, before all being together as a whole class on Friday 11th of September
        • we will let you know exact dates for your child asap
    • all Reception children will be in full-time from Monday 14th September
  • Nursery pupils will have a staggered integration in to school from Monday 14th September
    • times and dates to be confirmed
    • in the meantime, please continue to connect with Miss Thomas via the dojo app in preparation for September

We are hoping the the measures below are just temporary, and that we can return to fully normal ways of operating as soon as possible. They have been put in place to help keep your children, yourselves and staff safe. Please ensure you have read them fully and adhere to them.

Drop-off and Pick-up Times

The WAG guidance acknowledges that the greatest risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus at schools is between parents and other adults before and after school. To that end we will be asking and doing the following:

  •  all children will be split into 2 groups, group ‘A’ and group ‘B’
    • all siblings will be in group ‘A’ as well as some other children
    • we will let you know which group your child is in soon

Group ‘A’

  • doors will open in the morning for group ‘A’ children between 8:40 and 8:50
    • only group ‘A’ pupils and parents should be on the yard at this time
  • at the end of the day, group ‘A’ children will be dismissed between 2:50 and 3:00
    • only group ‘A’ parents should be on the yard at this time

Group ‘B’

  • doors will open in the morning for group ‘B’ children between 8:50 and 9:00
    • only group ‘B’ pupils and parents should be on the yard at this time
  • at the end of the day, group ‘B’ children will be dismissed between 3:00 and 3:10
    • only group ‘B’ parents should be on the yard at this time

This will be reviewed regularly and we may look at alternating timings for group ‘A’ and ‘B’ half termly.

It is important that as few parents/carers as possible are on the yard at any time. If at all possible, only one parent/carer should accompany their child(ren) when dropping off and picking up.

Everyone should enter the school site via the main gate and exit via the other 2 gates (whichever is closest). The ‘green’ and ‘red’ arrow system will still be in place for September. This has worked very well during the 3 weeks of ‘check-in’, ‘catch-up’ and ‘prepare’ sessions and congregating around or bottle necks forming around entrances and exits have been avoided.

Further information on entrances to use, staggered play and lunch times etc. will follow in due course and as WAG guidance is updated.

Please bear with us in the meantime, this is a first for us all too and we want to ensure we can open up as safely as possibly for all concerned.

Breakfast Club

  • Breakfast Club will be open from Monday 7th September for children from Reception to Year 6
    • Doors open at 7:50, cost of £1 for anyone arriving between 7:50 and 8:10 (sessions must be paid for in advance)
    • Free between 8:10 and 8:30
    • Doors close at 8:30
    • Children move to their own classes between 8:40 & 8:50
  • You must book a place in advance as we have strict guidelines and ratios to adhere to
  • Due to children having to stay within their class ‘bubbles’, each class will be assigned a table or group of tables for breakfast club, so they are not mixing unnecessarily with children from other classes. This is another reason as to why children must be booked in in advance.
  • Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer the same game and play activities during Breakfast Club as we need to reduce the risk of children mixing with children from other classes.

After School Care

  • After school care can be provided by Mini-World (01978 810587) and Jumping Jacks (07543455965)
  • Unfortunately, we are unable to run JD’s After School Club this year

We will continue to share information and guidance as soon as it is practicable.

I would sincerely like to thank you in advance for your continued understanding and support. The health and safety of your children are at the forefront of all our decisions. We appreciate that we may be asking you to do things slightly differently, and we will all continue to adapt and follow new guidance as it is released, but we all do it in order to minimise risks to the whole school community.
