Class AT – Miss A. Thomas

Welcome to Class AT.

Tudor Day 2019

What a fantastic day we had for our Tudor Day! The children all looked fabulous, thank you so much for all the effort that was put into helping the day be such a success. The children really enjoyed themselves. I think they would quite like to be a Tudor if they got to eat as much food as they did!

Thank you also, for your kind donations of food and to the parents who helped out on the day, we couldn’t have done it without all of your help.

Here a few photos from the day for you to enjoy:

Welcome back after the Christmas break. I hope you had a lovely break.

This term we will be studying the Tudors. We will be answering the question – Would you have survived Tudor times? Using all of the knowledge that we learn over the term, we will then make a decision about whether we think we could have survived in Tudor times.

At the end of the term I would like us to have a Tudor day. This will involve dressing up in Tudor costumes and completing different activities based on the lives of Tudors.

Here is the overview for this term:

Curriculum Overview Spring term

I hope that you have had a fabulous Summer and are looking forward to the year ahead. I am very excited to be back at Ysgol Maes-y-Llan, ready to share new ideas and skills with the school.

In Year 4/5 this year, we will be developing our skills across the curriculum. A big focus being oracy. We will work on our speaking skills and how to use them more accurately.

There will also be a big push with reading. We have a class reading chart in class, every time you read with your child at home, be sure to write in their reading record. Each comment they have will receive a sticker on the chart, as the chart fills up, prizes will be handed out. This runs alongside the whole school read-a-thons.

Weekly individualised spellings will be going out once all assessments have been completed. It is important that children practise these spellings at home.

In maths we will be working on our knowledge and understanding of timetables. Children will receive weekly timestables and complete quizzes in class. The aim is to reach the gold rocket, or above!

PE this term will be on a Monday, kit can be left in school, however, if you want it home this is fine, as long as it returns every week.

Below is an overview for what will be covered this term.
