U-20s Six 6 Nations

As PE and Health and Wellbeing Lead, Mrs Thomas was contacted by the WRU on the 13th of January, along with 120+ other schools from North Wales, and was invited to enter our Year 5s and Year 6s into a writing competition.

The challenge set by the Welsh Rugby Union was to, ‘Write a motivational speech that would be intended to be delivered to the Welsh Rugby team prior to them playing an International Game.’

We are pleased (and very proud) to announce that we were contacted yesterday by the WRU as our Year 6 class were awarded 2nd place overall and Year 5 were given 1st place! Da iawn all! Some of the Year 5 entries may even be shown on the pitch-side big screen; given that the match will be televised live on S4C, there could be quite a large audience reading some of our pupils’ motivational speeches.

As Maes-y-Llan was placed 1st and 2nd, both Year 5 and Year 6  have been invited to attend Wales’ first match of the U-20 Six Nations tournament on Friday 31st of January at Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay.

Details will be sent out today with Year 5 and 6 pupils. Below is an outline of what Friday 31st will look like for those attending.

During the autumn term, six Year 6 pupils won a poetry competition and will be having their poems published in a nationally sold poetry book.

Our pupils’ writing has come out on top again in a writing competition that was for all schools across North Wales, which is a massive credit to them and all the teachers and adults who have worked with them.

I am very proud of all the staff at Maes-y-Llan and and very grateful for all the hard work, dedication and support which they provide to all our pupils.

Da iawn all!

Mr Hamilton
