Outdoor Learning this week reflected on how people in the past showed bravery and how people in the community remember these important events. The children had observed lots of poppies in the community, so we discussed how poppies grow and the features of the poppy. The children began as tiny poppy seeds and gently grew into flowers while calming music played. They used scarves to represent petals and moved softly like flowers in the wind.
We also explored rhythm and movement, using instruments the children practised keeping a steady beat. They enjoyed moving around the area playing quietly, loudly, slowly and quickly. This supported their listening skills, coordination and understanding of musical patterns.
Learners then independently used the forest area as they wished, having opportunities to swing, climb and explore with adult support.
During the afternoon, children had opportunity to create their own collage poppies, thinking about the colours and parts of the flower. They were independent and created beautiful poppy pictures for a display.
