I have been a part of the Maes y Llan family in one way or another for over 28 years!
My first encounter with our wonderful school was as a student teacher, when I carried out a teaching practise alongside our retired Deputy Head, Mrs Sian Matthews. My love of teaching grew, as did my love for the school and its’ children. Seeing the impact I had on those little faces, spurred me on.
I hadn’t always wanted to be a teacher, and I firstly trained as a Beauty Therapist!
My mum taught in Cefn Mawr juniors for many years and, as I helped her out on many occasions, I realised which career path I wanted to take.
I started teaching at Hafod y Wern in Wrexham initially, but was soon offered a part time teaching position in Maes y Llan. 25 years later, I’m still here!
Over 800 children have walked out of my classroom at the end of their time in year 6, and their time in primary school, and I feel very privileged to have helped in preparing them for their lives ahead.
My role has developed and changed over the years, and I feel very proud to have been Deputy Headteacher since November 2015.
During my time at Maes y Llan, I have had a range of responsibilities, but predominantly I have been lead for literacy, science and behaviour. I have also been a Student Mentor and have worked closely with Ysgol Rhiwabon in order to aid transition into high school. I also have close links with Glyndwr University.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends as well as being in the great outdoors. I have a son and a daughter, Billy and Ruby, who I am proud to say are both fluent Welsh speakers! I have a passion for nature, drawing and photography, music and I even love a bit of DIY!
